Kate is a familiar face in Scone having practiced law since 1997 with a local firm before moving into sole practice in 2012. Kate has served the legal needs of successive generations of local families with a particular focus on conveyancing, commercial transactions, Family law, probate and estates. In all matters, Kate applies a pragmatic and sensible approach in order to reach an efficient and cost-effective resolution for her clients. Kate particularly enjoys helping farming families work through succession planning and intergenerational transfers of family properties and assisting with the complexities that can arise as a result of family re-arrangements of this nature. Kate is a current member of the NSW Law Society and the Hunter Valley Law Society. In addition to leading the team at Kate Mailer & Associates, Kate assists her husband in running their thoroughbred broodmare farm just out of Scone.



Bernadette is an experienced lawyer skilled in family law, conveyancing and dispute resolution.

Since completing her Law and Arts (Psychology) degrees in 2009, Bernadette has completed a Master of Family Studies, developing her passion for understanding the complexities of how families function and dysfunction. Bernadette’s major work studied the challenges faced by families of fathers engaged in FIFO (fly in fly out) work.

Bernadette is driven to help families achieve a sound legal result when separating, without further fraying strained family relationships, particularly where children are involved. Bernadette utilises her sincere and practical manner to resolve legal disputes efficiently and cost-effectively.

Bernadette is involved in numerous sporting clubs and enjoys travel, books and trivia nights.


Carmen has decades of experience in legal offices and the local banking sector, skills which align precisely with the needs of an expanding legal practice. Carmen organises the office with astounding efficiency and professionalism. Carmen works closely with professional staff to provide invaluable assistance in all legal matters, particularly families dealing with the loss of a loved one to guide them through Estate matters with compassion and proficiency. Carmen is a Justice of the Peace and is always available to provide this complimentary service to members of the community. Carmen and her husband enjoy tending to their array of animals they have collected which comprises numerous chickens, ducks, a couple goats and a few cats, just to name a few. Carmen loves a good crime podcast, travelling, fine dining and a nice red wine.



Josephine is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws with the University of New England and is expected to complete this degree in 2024. Josephine is interested in a wide range of areas of law, particularly conveyancing, family law, estates and criminal law. Josephine brings a vibrant, young influence to all areas of the office, from overseeing the office marketing utilising her Diploma in Communication, to keeping the office in touch with the current social trends. Outside her busy study and work commitments, Josephine enjoys weightlifting, travelling and weekend coffee dates. Josephine is thoroughly enjoying developing her legal skills with the Kate Mailer & Associates team and progressing her career in the law.



Leona capably assists our clients with any queries they have in a timely and friendly manner. Leona has a background in small business and accounts and is a very capable and valuable member of our team. Leona is well and truly a Scone local, with her family farming at Moonan Flat for over 150 years. Leona loves caring for her pet lambs and on her days off Leona enjoys helping out on the farm, especially with sheep work. Leona loves a brisk day hike locally or a challenging week long hiking adventure overseas. Leona is always looking forward to her next overseas adventure.
